Really smart or pretty dumb?

So I'm totally liking this concept here:

Plates with colored portion sizes! I'm a visual person so this would help me sooo much... almost like a game!!  It's something so simple (I could probably creat my own at one of those paint-your-own-pottery places, those are still around right?) but something that could be really effective.  The makers of these plates, two Milan designers - that makes it sound even better, right - also want to come out with different size plates depending on the caloric needs of individual people.  It would be cool to be able to custom order your own!

Really smart idea or pretty dumb?

I had this same idea about a year ago when my mother gave me some hand made dinner ware that she makes. I had thought it would be a great thing to make individual pieces based on what it is you should be eating. Similar concept, I never did try it out how ever with my moms gift. Youll have to let me know if you decide to and how it goes ;)

I think it's a great idea especially if you could customize your old colors. Whatever helps, right?

just found your blog and love it! why? well becuz I am a shortie too, and when I explain, (which I just keep my mouth shut most of the time cuz I don't want to hear the crap,) that my ideal weight is 110-115pounds, ppl think I have issues..and tend to lecture me on body image no!--I am just a 5' shrimp!-so back off!
Are you doing a particular workout routine now?

I think it is a good idea. For someone who has battled obesity for most of my life, I basically had to relearn how to eat and what a "normal" portion of each item was. It seems fundamental but for those visual learners like us I think the are good.

Just had to comment about height. I am 5'2" According to the charts I should weigh about 120. I will be happy at 150 and being that I started at 315 THAT will be an accomplishment. IMHO it is what you feel comfortable at not what "others" think is appropriate.

@Becca - Right now I'm doing a mix of HIIT cardio and weight lifting. Not a specific program in general, but pulling from all my faves like P90X, Body for Life, ChaLean Extreme, etc.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hmm...well...ahhh...

I got two issues with the design...First, it doesn't take into account height...you just know that someone will stack it up high within their section to skirt the rules.

Second, with the ledgend on the bottom of the plate, you'd need to flip it over to know what section to fill with what (unless you use another empty plate)...kind of tough to do when there is stuff on the plate.

Last, I'm color deficient...the colored sections would have to be really distinct for me.

In short, I think it is a gimmick whose time should not come.

Got to give them props for creativity though. Cute and a discussion piece, but not too practical.

I say anything that can help one with their goals is a good thing.

Actually it sounds kind of fun! I would totally give it a try.

I would buy one for myself! Great idea, because I am visual too. Of course, it wouldn't be very useful on lasagne night, carb, veg, protein and cheese all in one LOL oh well.
