That's a wall!

Yesterday I had my last PT session till August and it was crazy! Not just crazy... C.R.A.Z.Y!

I had a long day at work and pretty much only ate lunch (meant to make breakfast when I got to work but you know how it gets) so by the time the afternoon rolled around, I was ready to call it a day but NOOOOOO... had to go to the gym still.

Started out with a nice 20 minute brisk walk on the treadmill as my warm up, then headed to see my PT.

60 minutes of full body conditioning + plyo + not enough energy = hitting the wall harrd

This is the first time I really experience what you Beachbody veterans call boinking (or is it bonking - I can't remember). About halfway through my workout, right in the middle of my vertical jumps/skaters/plyo lunge sequence, I hit it.... the wall. It's like someone literally flipped a switch and I was out! I just coudln't move my body how I wanted to and there went my form and execution on all my exercises. Even my PT asked what' s up. After taking it down a notch, the 60 minutes were up BUT the boyfriend picked up a shift yesterday so I had to walk home from the gym. It's a short walk, about 30 minutes, but I was just so drained I seriously didn't think I could. Luckily it was raining a little bit so that kept me "refreshed".

Never again will I attempt a serious workout with not enough fuel in me.

But on the plus side, I've been back at nutrition and exercise for the last several days and we all know that for me, that's amazing!! Keep it up! KEEP IT UP!!!

Hi I'm new to your blog and also working on P90X and I had never heard about "the wall" until your post but that totally happened to me last night! I even did the Cardio X work-out and just couldn't move during some of the plyo exercises! My body just gave up even though my mind kept going. I ate horribly during the day so it totally makes sense! Thanks for the insight!

It's bonking .. boinking is what you do at home with your S.O. (hahah).

I've done that before, not fun. I remember choosing to eat air popped popcorn with becel butter spray before a bootcamp class. I crashed hard partway through! Learned a good lesson from that one.

LOL...boinking...that was a good one. As Heidi beat me to the punch, you had it right with bonking. I actually heard the term and "hitting the wall" more associated with endurance athletes like marathon runners who, as you did, simply ran out of fuel to keep the body going.

Little in...little out.

Here is a youtube video I found on it.

Do you have any idea how many people out there would use that day at work and lack of fuel as a big ole justified excuse to not workout?

Girl...you went to the damn gym and you let the PT push you to the wall! That's RAD! No excuses. You know I love that. :)

Thanks for the suggestion of water/tea after work. I often have water but that doesn't quite cut it. I had forgotten that a nice cup of hot tea tends to cut the munchies. I'll try that for the next few days. Walk in the door, kettle on, warm-up dinner! Thanks!!

Ah, yeah, its called bonking. Boinking is a whole different thing like the other said.

Anyway, you really left it all in the gym. Doing plyo and full body conditioning for 60 minutes can drive you to the wall without the right fuel. At least you made your last PT session extreme. The walk home must have been murder.

Do you go to 24 Hr Fitness?
